Sergio Romero Being Heavily Linked with Potential Move to Arsenal

There are juicy transfer rumors, and then there are juicy transfer rumors involving two clubs in the Premier League’s big six. Sergio Romero, back-up goalkeeper at Manchester United, is being heavily linked with a move to Arsenal FC today. Romero reportedly wants out in order to gain more playing time and prove himself in time to gain a spot on Argentina’s World Cup squad.

If that’s the case, then there’s little time remaining, and his move would have to be in January. Sergio Romero established himself as United’s UEFA Europa League #1 last season, and that worked out well for all involved as the Red Devils won their first Europa League title in club history and with it a return to the UEFA Champions League.

While that definitely showed the world Romero’s potential, it might not be enough to save him from missing out on the World Cup next summer. He won’t be seeing any action in the near future behind David de Gea at Old Trafford, unless the Spaniard suffers an injury that puts him out of action. So if Romero is to move, where might he land?

According to the Daily Star, “Bookmakers Ladbrokes believe the keeper could be heading out of Old Trafford in the near future and make Arsenal surprise favourites to snap him up.”

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes is quoted: “With David de Gea on the scene, Romero is never going to break into Mourinho’s first-team plans – and it now looks likely that Wenger will take advantage of the Argentine’s availability.”

It’s being widely reported and highly cited that the sports book backs a Sergio Romero move to Arsenal at 9/4 currently.

If Romero does leave, then who steps in as the back-up at United? Probably 21-year-old Portugese stopper Joel Pereira, who the club are pretty high on when it comes to his future potential.
