Romelu Lukaku Reportedly Suffers Ankle Injury with Belgium

Some potentially really bad news for Manchester United and their fans broke just minutes ago- high flying striker Romelu Lukaku has suffered an ankle injury while on international duty with Belgium.

ESPN FC journalist Rob Dawson reported the news first, stating that the 24 year old is with the club, but missed training today due to the setback.

Dawson posted on Twitter: “Romelu Lukaku joined up with the Belgium squad this afternoon but didn’t train because of an ankle problem. Being checked over by doctors.”

In the story posted on the outlet’s website, Dawson wrote that: “Lukaku reported to the Belgian Football Centre in Brussels as normal on Monday afternoon ahead of World Cup qualifiers against Bosnia and Cyprus, despite being involved in ongoing court proceedings in Los Angeles.”

Hopefully for United, this turns out to be only a minor setback because he’s one player that they certainly cannot afford to lose.

On Saturday, Lukaku scored his 11th goal in his last ten games across all competitions. He also tied Andy Cole for most goals scored in his first seven league games for United (7). So if he’s gone for an extended period of time, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial will need to stay in the tremendous form that they have showcased thus far.

Additionally, Mourinho said this past weekend that Lukaku won’t get much rest until Zlatan Ibrahimovic returns.

In other Lukaku news, the forward plead not guilty today to a misdemeanor noise violation, stemming from a Beverly Hills incident in July. He was scheduled to appear in Los Angeles County court today, but did not. Here’s a link to much more on that.
