Manchester United News: Martial, Rashford, McTominay

Congratulations to Manchester United, who won 3-1 against Brighton & Hove Albion today, in a match that they easily should have won 5-1. Marcus Rashford scored, but he had some missed opportunities and easily should have had a brace, if not a hat trick in this one.

Rashford has brilliant potential, but he needs to work on finishing more clinically. He’s had his best when alongside Anthony Martial (two assists today), whose presence takes his game up a couple notches. This sequence here below is making the internet rounds; for obvious reasons.

This result saw United climb back into the top half of the table, where they sit in seventh place on 16 points. Given all the “worst start ever” talk (which was completely deserved and then some) we’ve heard this season, 7th isn’t the end of the world right now.

Andreas Pereira provided the first goal for United today.

It’s not too far off the pace of respectability. Getting back to that Martial-Rashford partnership (add in Daniel James and you have a nice trio), check out these stats:

Anthony Martial in the Premier League this season:

6 starts
3 goals
3 assists
A goal or assist every 89 minutes

Marcus Rashford in the Premier League this season:

12 starts
6 goals
3 assists
A goal or assist every 115 minutes

The second United goal came off a free kick sent by centre midfielder Scott McTominay. The final touch came off Brighton midfielder Davy Propper, and thus it was ruled an own goal. Later, the young Scotsman got injured, with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær offering this piece of news:

“He [McTominay] went over on his ankle. It’s a painful one. I had one and was out for eight weeks but sometimes back in two. Scan tomorrow. Scotty is not one for rolling around.”
