Manchester United Goalkeeper David de Gea stood to earn £66.7 million at Real Madrid, had his transfer away from Old Trafford gone through. This big reveal was made today in a document released by whistle-blowing website Football Leaks. (h/t Sky Sports)
The document claims De Gea would have signed a six-year contract at the Bernabeu and received £9m-a-year ($12.9m-a-year) in wages as well as a £8.4m ($12.1m) signing-on fee.
Both Real Madrid and Manchester United have refused to comment on the information leaked to the public today in the document. De Gea signed a four year contract extension in September on the heels of a transfer saga that dominated the summer window news cycle.
That soap opera ended in a £29 million bid collapsing on deadline day due to let’s say “logistical failures.”
De Gea’s new four-year contract extension (which includes an option for a fifth) with United is believed to be worth around £200,000-a-week.
