It continues to be a very exciting summer at Manchester United, with plenty of topics to discuss. What offseason, right?
So let’s take a spin through the latest news and notes items making the rounds on the internet today.
It was nearly a month ago that we learned United’s all-time leading scorer, and one of the most iconic players in club history, Wayne Rooney was soon the be crossing the pond. Rooney will play his trade for another team named United, but this time it’s a club that’s based in Washington D.C. and competes in Major League Soccer.
Though that the narrative has been out for a month, we’re still waiting on completion and closure of this deal.
It may be arriving soon as a report from the Daily Mirror claims that Rooney is “furious” after “being told he is not in Marco Silva’s plans.” It appears the new boss at Everton, the club United bought Rooney from and later sold him back to, has no place for Rooney in his Toffees rebuilding plans.
Additionally, NBC Sports tells us that Rooney has agreed to a three year deal with D.C. and that he’ll make the switch over in July.
-United, for the second consecutive year, are the richest club in the entire world, according to Forbes magazine. They beat out Real Madrid and Barcelona again. United ended Madrid’s four year stay in the penthouse suite when they assumed the top perch in 2017, and their money making machine that is MUFC shows no signs at all of slowing down, regardless of how many trophies the team wins or not.
In other words, United Executive Vice President Ed Woodward has done a masterful job on the marketing and sponsorships fronts, and should thus not feel hesitant at all about splashing the cash this summer transfer window.
-United forward Marcus Rashford is the first injury concern that England has had at this World Cup. He picked up a knock in Three Lions’ final training session before the team flies to Russia for the tournament, and is now a doubt for Three Lions’ first training session in Russia on Wednesday. The Daily Mirror has more.
