In his weekly news conference on Friday, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp hinted at more deals to get done before the summer transfer window closes on Thursday. Monday brought plenty of Reds transfer talk, with not one but two club record breaking deals in the works. An agreement has been reached to bring top transfer target Naby Keita over from RB Leipzig for next summer, when his release clause kicks in.
Keita reportedly had a medical today, and we covered that in detail over at this link. The second major Liverpool transfer narrative indicates that Anfield put in a record bid for Monaco winger Thomas Lemar.
According to the BBC, Anfield: “are prepared to test Monaco’s resolve to keep midfielder Thomas Lemar with a club record offer of about £60m.”
The article goes on to state that this deal is not at all connected to the Philippe Coutinho situation, with the 21-year-old not deemed to be a replacement for Coutinho, should he bolt for Barcelona.
Monaco have further cemented their status as a selling club this summer, as the Ligue 1 champions have already sold Bernardo Silva and Benjamin Mendy to Manchester City, and also Tiemoue Bakayoko to Chelsea. Of course the really big news, football wise, out of the principality, revolves around striker Kylian Mbappe, who joined Paris Saint-Germain on loan today.
Overall, between Thomas Lemar and Naby Keita, it seems to be a huge news day on Merseyside.
