On Friday, Liverpool FC manager Jurgen Klopp intimated that their could be some deals done on summer transfer window deadline day/week. RB Leipzig’s Naby Keita has been one of Liverpool’s main targets all summer long. According to multiple reports today, a club record agreement was reached for Keita, with the caveat being he’ll sign next summer, not this one.
According to NBC Sports, Naby Keita “had a medical in Manchester on Monday and Liverpool have agreed to sign the Guinea midfielder for $62 million next summer when the release clause in his contract kicks in. It is also reported Liverpool have paid a premium to get the deal agreed early.”
James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo, tweeted that Keita underwent a medical in Wilmslow on Monday while The Mirror‘s David Anderson reports that Keita’s release clause kicks during June of 2018.
LFC have strongly and consistently pursued Keita all offseason/preseason, with RB Leipzig reportedly rejecting a previous £66 million bid from Liverpool. Until this deal is officially announced, the Liverpool club record signing status remains with winger Mohamed Salah, who inked his deal earlier this summer.
