Liverpool FC Goalkeeper Transfer Talk: Loris Karius, Simon Mignolet

It continues to be a very exciting summer transfer window at Liverpool FC, with plenty of transactions and news items to discuss. While the window has been closed in England for 12 days already, players can still head out the Anfield exit door until the end of the month.

Let’s take a spin through the latest transfer news stories making the rounds on the internet today.

When Alisson Becker was signed from AS Roma this summer he became firmly entrenched as the #1 for this season. That obviously created question marks for the goalkeepers behind him.

Loris Karius is finalizing a two year loan move to Besiktas, for a reported £2.25 million fee. The Liverpool Echo reports that the Turkish side are also “obligated to buy the German shot-stopper for a further £7.25 million in 2020 if certain performance criteria are met. These are related to appearances and Besiktas qualifying for Europe.”

In the end, Liverpool could conceivably make £9.5 million off the deal. With Karius out, it means Simon Mignolet will likely stay. Mignolet has been heavily linked with a move to several clubs, including Napoli this summer, but Jurgen Klopp is not keen to let both backup shot stoppers move on.

Reporters from the Mirror and HLN are tweeting that Mignolet will stay:

Jurgen Klopp will allow only ONE keeper to leave, so if Karius deal completed after tonight's game, Simon Mignolet will stay as number two to Alisson #LFC

Also, Liverpool won 2-0 at Crystal Palace today to go to 2-0 on the season, with a 6-0 goal differential. Only Manchester City are currently ahead of them in the table, as they are +7 on goal differential for the young season.
