Tottenham receive backhanded compliment from Mourinho

The good news for Tottenham Hotspur fans is that their club is ripe for title contention. The conditions are quite favorable. The bad news for Spurs supporters is that their club has low expectations. The standards aren’t very high.

This according to Chelsea Manager Jose Mourinho; who almost never fails to entertain.

“[There is] no pressure on them, like it is in the other four or five top teams to reach important positions,” Mourinho said.

“Nobody speaks about them as title contenders, like they speak about Man City, Man United. They have great conditions without the same pressure other clubs have to do magnificent work.”

“They lose a couple of matches and nothing happens. They are in the Europa League, and, in the group phase, to be fair, nobody cares about Europa League. They go smoothly, step by step. They build a team. They bring in young players. They give conditions, without any kind of pressure, for the young players to develop in the team.”

Right now, Tottenham are winning, and drawing a lot more than Mourinho’s side. The defending champions aren’t getting results this year; Spurs are. Heading into the clash at White Hart Lane Sunday, Tottenham are fifth in the Premier League table while Chelsea are 15th.

The side from North London has also accrued 10 more points than the giant club from West London.

Mourinho is completely correct though about how no one cares about Europa League. He’s not exaggerating; NO ONE cares about Europa League. We have the same set-up here in the United States, just it’s with college basketball. Everyone loves the NCAA Tournament, sometimes called “the big dance” or “march madness.”

The consolation bracket, known as the NIT is something that no one cares about. It’s pejoratively referred to as Not Important Tournament or Not Invited Tournament. The parallels are quite similar.
