Time to take another spin on the coaching carousel. Let’s see where it lands this time! I think we’re going to need a flow chart in here soon. Here’s an update via the Daily Express: “Manuel Pellegrini admits that even winning the Premier League for the second time in three years may not save his job.”
Here’s more via a report according to FOX Soccer:
Chelsea have lined up Manchester City coach Manuel Pellegrini as a permanent replacement for Jose Mourinho. In a succession plan drawn up by the Premier League club’s technical director Michael Emenalo, Pellegrini will move from Manchester City to Stamford Bridge in the summer at the end of Guus Hiddink’s second spell as Chelsea’s caretaker coach.
In contrast to other leading candidates for the Chelsea post, the expectation is that Pellegrini can be recruited without paying compensation to his current employers as City’s intention is to replace the Chilean with Pep Guardiola at the end of this season
Okay, so just to recap, former Real Madrid and Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti is going to Bayern Munich. That means we now have the second major domino falling. Pep’s departure would be the third to fall. Chelsea sacking Jose Mourinho was obviously the first.
The next domino to fall could be Louis van Gaal at Manchester United. Numerous outlets are claiming that Van Gaal could be in danger of getting the sack, with just one game left to save his job.
With that, the domino theory then morphs into a wildly great coaching carousel. We have rumors of Jose Mourinho to United. Then there’s the gossip that Manchester City want Guardiola to supplant their incumbent Manuel Pellegrini.
If United don’t go for Mourinho, then it’s Guardiola. (Got all that? Do you have an ice cream headache yet?)
If Chelsea do replace Mourinho, we’re talking in the long term here, with Manuel Pellegrini, then everything comes full circle. It’s a revolution! Because a revolution is one spin completely around; 360 degrees.
This will of course bring balance to the force.
