Chelsea FC icon Frank Lampard has already done the “European star goes to the football world’s retirement home in America” routine. Today, he announced the end to this portion of his career. The 38-year-old Lampard is done at New York City FC and on his way to the next step in his journey, wherever and whatever that may be.
“As my time at NYCFC comes to an end I would like to thank so many people for the kindness and support that they have shown me over the last two years,” Lampard wrote on his official Instagram account.
“My teammates have been a pleasure to play alongside. The amazing fans have given me incredible support and backing. All the people that work behind the scenes at NYCFC have made it so easy for me to work and settle here.
“I have very much enjoyed my time, and I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to play for such a great club and in such an incredible city.”
“I leave with many great memories as I embark on the next stage of my career and I’ll be making an announcement very soon. @nycfc”.
Yes, very soon. That’s when will find out what’s in store for Frank Lampard next. Could it be return to Chelsea FC? Will he be teaming up with Steven Gerrard in a new venture? Stevie G. announced his exit from Los Angeles yesterday, and there’s talk that Gerrard could be on his way to a Liverpool reunion with Brendan Rodgers at Celtic.
This upcoming Brexit of sorts in America, (stars of giant English clubs who went to the USA, and are now leaving) coincides with the election of Donald Trump as President. Of course, social media had some fun with that.

Lampard won three Premier League title, four FA Cups and the Champions League during a 13-year Chelsea career before switching to NYCFC. Congratulations to Frank Lampard on an incredible career, and best of luck to him in all his future endeavors.
