Arsenal Reportedly Shopping Theo Walcott, Mesut Ozil in January

The January transfer window could be much more interesting than usual given how Arsenal should be motivated to move some of their soon to be expiring contracts. You already know about Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, who’s deals are done at the end of the season, but Theo Walcott is only contracted for another 18 months himself.

According to the Daily Express, Walcott could be returning to his youth club Southampton FC.

The outlet writes that “Arsenal are set to sell England forward Walcott as well as German international midfielder Mesut Ozil in a January clear out, as manager Arsene Wenger reshapes his side and brings in funds.”

“Walcott, 28, has found himself on the fringes of the Arsenal first team this season, yet to start a Premier League game and confined to Europa League and League Cup duty.”

One could say that Walcott is trapped in playing time purgatory right now, and badly needs an escape to somewhere that could provide him regular first team football. The south coast club could be the right destination for him, but the article goes on to say that Inter Milan, West Ham United and Everton are also interested in Theo Walcott.

As for Ozil, he will have no shortage of potential suitors, as just a couple years ago he was showing form that put him in the PFA Player of the Year award discussion.

He’s obviously not at that level now (to say the least, as he has no goals or assists this season through five league games), but he’s consistently been linked with a move to Manchester United recently.
