Wisconsin Football Spring Game: Your Essential Guide

All eyes will be on redshirt sophomore QB Jon Budmayr in 2011 as he attempts to take over for Scott Tolzien. Tolzien wasn’t the flashiest of quarterbacks, but he was one of the most efficient signal-callers in the country last season.

Considered by many to have an even stronger arm, Budmayr has quite the task ahead of him when replacing Tolzien who led last year’s squad to a Rose Bowl and rarely made mistakes on the football field.

Budmayr gets his first chance on Saturday when the first-team offense (Cardinal) takes on the first-team defense (White) in the Wisconsin Badgers Annual Spring Football Game that kicks off at 1:00 PM.

The game will consist of four 12-minute quarters and a 15-minute halftime. The idea is to have the #1 offense match-up with the #1 defense, the #2 offense with the #2  defense and so-on.

For the first time in the Spring Game tradition, fans will be charged $5 for entrance to Camp Randall for the festivities. No reason to fret though because the money is going towards a good cause. All of the proceeds from the game will go to the UW School of Nursing.

The weather shouldn’t prevent a great turn-out as the forecast calls for a high of 57 and partly sunny day. With only a 20% chance of rain, Badgers fans can leave the umbrellas at home when they visit Camp Randall.

If you can’t make it to the game, it will be streamed live on BigTenNetwork.com and shown on Big Ten Network later that day at 9 PM.

Prior to the game, UW coaching legend and current athletic director Barry Alveraz will hold a news conference to announce the Wisconsin Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2011.
