Liverpool Players Make Jokes About Harry Kane Claiming Goals

Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah and Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane are locked in a fierce battle for the Golden Boot, and this week we saw that competition get taken to another dimension.

Tottenham successfully lobbied the Football Association to have a Christian Eriksen goal credited to Harry Kane, who was publicly stumping very hard for the idea that he did in fact get the final touch on the goal in question. This development seemingly surprised Salah, when he heard about it in midweek. Following a 3-0 win over Bournemouth today, Salah’s teammates James Milner and Jordan Henderson had some fun at Kane’s expense.

Another hat-trick for Mo today…. just waiting for the other two to be confirmed by the claims panel? https://t.co/GPYt4vHMn8

Salah scored one of Liverpool’s goals today, moving him five clear of Kane for the scoring lead (both players are also on the PFA Player of the Year award short list). After the match, Reds defender James Milner made the tweet above.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson also made a joke about Salah claiming a hat trick.

“Yeah, he told me he’s going to claim all of them,” Henderson said in an interview with BT Sport.

“He’s been brilliant, he’s been fantastic. But he’s just got to keep it going, with his work rate, his movement off the ball, how strong he is. Yeah, he’s a big player for us, so hopefully he can keep scoring for us.”

Tottenham still have a game in hand on Liverpool, but with Kane five goals behind Salah it just doesn’t look likely that he’ll catch the Egyptian.
