Manchester United did what they had to do today- obtain all three points, not just one. Undefeated since autumn, the Red Devils still haven’t been able to make up much as much ground as you would expect, given their run. That’s due to the fact they’ve had too many draws that should have been wins.
However, they came correct today, with a very resounding 3-0 win at Leicester City.
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho now has his team one point behind free-falling Liverpool for fourth and two behind Arsenal for third.
Mourinho was apparently feeling feisty in his postgame press conference because he took a subtle, (or really not so subtle, depending on who you ask) swipe at Chelsea, his former employer. Mourinho was often called out, by both fans and media alike, for “parking the bus” (playing ultra-conservative, uber-defensive and less than entertaining ball).
Speaking at his post match news conference, Mourinho said: “My team is playing very well.”
“But for many, many years in my career — especially in this country when my teams were ruthless and when my teams were phenomenal defensively and very good on the counter-attack — I listened, week after week, how that was not enough in spite of winning the title three times.
“It looks like, this season, to be phenomenal defensively and in counter-attack is art, so it is a big change in England.
“But I don’t want to change how we play.”
There you have it, Mourinho is both comfortable and proud of his pragmatic style, which he is obviously sarcastically saying has now become fashionable. The Portugese is making an allusion to the chants of “boring, boring Chelsea” which supporter fans in the rest of the league chanted at them in 2015, once the Blues had the title long sewn up, but still had to play out the strong. ‘
Hence they had to park the bus.
