Will Andrew Wiggins choose the Florida State Seminoles, Kansas Jayhawks, or North Carolina Tar Heels? Or will he be like EVERY other blue-chip recruit in this class and head to Big Blue Nation? (The Kentucky Wildcats) Wiggins lead the East team with 19 points in 24 minutes of the McDonald’s All-American game. The West won 110-99.
The female student body at Florida State did all they could this past college basketball season to sell top recruit Andrew Wiggins on the school during his official visit in December.
Andrew Wiggins is the son of former Florida State athletes Mitchell Wiggins and Marita Payne-Wiggins. Even though it’s obviously a college football school first, Andrew Wiggins is seriously considering the ‘Noles, who finished the 2012-13 season with a lackluster 18-16 record; and early exit from the NIT. The year before, the Seminoles advanced to the NCAA Tournament’s Round of 32 after winning their first ACC championship. And the year before that, #10 seeded FSU made the sweet 16 with that wonderful upset of #2 seeded Notre Dame at the United Center.
So there’s potential in Tallahassee if Andrew Wiggins wants to go there.
From the Orlando Sentinel:
Jay Williams, the former Duke and Chicago Bulls guard who was helping call the event that was broadcast by ESPNU, tweeted the following after the stunning display: “That Andrew Wiggins dunks was absolutely naaaaaaaaaasttttttyyyy. Please tell me ya’ll saw it?”
As part of a dunk competition featuring America’s top high school basketball talent — Wiggins is from Canada originally, but played at a prep school based out of Huntington, W. Va. — the 6-foot-8 high school senior went in between his legs before completing a reverse 180-degree turn while in flight.
Speaking of Williams, did you know that he is dating fellow ESPN personality Charissa Thompson?
Wiggins’ brother tweeted something stupid and useless a couple days ago that seemed like an obvious and desperate ploy to get publicity off his brother’s coattails. Something about how Andrew Wiggins will “shock the world” (and great usage of a useless, shop-worn cliche there buddy) when he announces where he’ll play his college basketball later this month. It was a time-wasting non-story and a blatant overture to Wichita State being in the Final Four. Andrew Wiggins has until May 15th to decide, and believe me, the WSU Shockers are not in the running.
Below you’ll find our Andrew Wiggins interview from McDAAG media day.
And yes, it’s terrible. Just an awful interview. So I apologize in advance for that.
