Tottenham Hotspur suffered a resounding elimination loss at the hands of Borussia Dortmund, but that’s actually a good thing in the bigger picture. No seriously, it is.
With everybody talking about fixture congestion and the very real concerns about player fatigue, I don’t see Spurs supporters losing any sleep over BVB sending them home from the Europa League tonight.
Sure, Spurs would like to do well in this tournament too, but they’re still alive in the Premier League title race. In fact, NBC Sports just projected them to win it earlier this week. Even if they don’t, Spurs are pretty much a look for the tour four, which means they’ll be in the big boy European tournament next year; not the consolation bracket.
There are just bigger and better things on the table for Tottenham right now so it’s just one of those rare situations where a loss is actually a win for Spurs in the bigger picture. You saw that with the lineups that Manager Mauricio Pochettino started for both legs of this tie.
