Well, over at DC Sports Bog we learned that former Redskins running back John Riggins has once again opened his mouth about his displeasure with the team. We say once again because Riggins made an epic YouTube video in mid October calling out Vinny Cerrato, Jim Zorn and maybe his high school football-playing son.
Take it away Riggo:
It appears Grizzly Adams up there might be a little coocoo for Coco Puffs when he’s forced to wrap is mind around the insanity that is Redskins football. Friends and family, especially his ankle-biting son, probably should’ve calmed him down, told him everything was going to be alright and remind him that the fireplace in his house doesn’t actually need real wood. (He also needs to be told the meaning of the term “ankle-biters.” High school kids aren’t ankle biters.)
Alas, no one managed to talk to him, which is great for us, of course. He made his opinions known to the world last night on Showtime’s “Inside the NFL” and they were certainly worth the price of admissions:
“But truthfully, I do have an ax to grind and I just realized I have been a little bit disingenuous. But this is a bad guy that owns this team. I’ll just tell you that upfront. Bad guy. And if the Commissioner is worried about potential new owners and saying some of these guys shouldn’t apply, he might want to police his own inside guys….”
What he failed to mention is that the real reason he has an axe to grind is because he need to chop more firewood for his YouTube backdrops.
He didn’t stop there:
“This person knows nothing about football, absolutely nothing. I don’t think they have a clue how a football team comes together, how it works. And yet they are the ones that are basically calling all the shots through a puppet, which is Vinny Cerrato”
Now, throughout this interview Chris Collinsworth wisely points out the difference between being a bad person and being a bad GM. At one point he finally presses Riggins on whether or not the league should be investigating something. Riggins’ response:
“Let me put it to you this way, Chris, this person’s heart is dark.”
This is Grade A quality creepy.
You’re not going to find too many instances of us defending Daniel Snyder, but this is one of them. Unfortunately it’s not against the law in this country to suck at your job and Daniel Snyder just sucks at his job. But that doesn’t mean he sucks at being a moral human being.
Oh, and it appears Paul Bunyan … er … John Riggins has made a lot more videos. So, yes, expect to see a lot more of him in the future. Who knows, maybe we’ll be brave enough to invite him to our blog.
Or maybe not.
