Embattled and currently injured Wide Receiver Brandon Marshall certainly needs to be a part of the upcoming Chicago Bears house cleaning.
Because he’s hurt, and therefore in the background right now, we forget that he’s also yet another personality contributing to the systemic problems in Halas Hall. Marshall wore out his welcome with two teams (Miami and Denver) before he got to Chicago. And after that embarrassing home loss to one of his former teams, (the Dolphins) and the fracas that ensued afterward, it became clear that B Marsh needs to part ways with his current team as well.
So let’s cover the whole revamping that we’re likely to see once Black Monday gets here in 11 days.
–Offensive Coordinator Aaron Kromer
It’s OFFENSIVE that he’s still here, but this link explains why. Hardly anyone believed anything that Kromer, Trestman and quarterback Jay Cutler said at that joke of an excuse of a press conference last Friday. The Bears’ pathetic performance versus the Saints on Monday night only verified that they were all lying to us before the game.
–Defensive Coordinator Mel Tucker
We knew he was going to get canned like a salmon for weeks now.
-Head Coach Marc Trestman
Reports have surfaced that his firing is imminent. He likely cooked his own goose with the way he badly blundered the Kromer situation. He decided to go down with the ship it appears.
The same report also says that Emery’s job is insecure. His status appears on the fence.
QB Jay Cutler
Where do you start in explaining this mess?
Retaining him would be like a season long middle finger to the franchise and their fans. However, this is literally the worst contract in the history of Chicago sports. Here’s what it would cost and when, in order to jettison Cutler, at different points in time. They could just pay $38,000,000 to make him go away tomorrow.
However, that’s 38mildo!! It’s clear his relationship with Brandon Marshall is strained, to the point that at least one of them has to go.
This whole Bears season has been tragic farce. Now they even went so far as to name Jimmy Clausen the starter on Sunday. Things are so bad, on all levels, that starting a guy who is the real life version of what happens to J.D. McCoy on “Friday Night Lights” after graduation, isn’t as terrible an idea as you think it is right now.
Don’t forget about Brandon Marshall, and his role in the dumpster fire to end all dumpster fires that has been the Bears season. In his infamously polarizing September press conference, Marshall made a lot of great points, and ti was great to see an athlete actually have opinions and say interesting things at a press conference. (That happens about 0.01% of the time)
However, Marshall made it all about himself, and his self-serving statements that day eroded all the hard work he’s done to augment his reputation. His social capital became further devalued with the locker room fracas post Miami.
It’s time for a fresh start, it’s time for the Bears to part ways with Brandon Marshall.
