It happens every year, the mid-major guy who slips through the NBA Draft cracks. That is until we reach the Combine, and the you loudly hear the buzz  of scouts, about the small school stud. This year it’s Scott Machado of Iona.

Here’s where  we have Machado going in our latest mock draft

35. Golden State (from BRK)- Scott Machado, PG, Iona, 6-1, Sr.
The Warriors could use a true distributor behind Stephen Curry.

And here’s a synopsis of Machado from our scouting report

One of the best pure point guards in college basketball, Machado has worked himself into the discussion of being a possible late first-round pick. He is one of the nation’s leaders in assists, and his ability to distribute the basketball should certainly earn him a shot in the league. I wouldn’t totally be shocked if some team falls in love with him and he sneaks into the middle of the first round, especially in this weaker point guard draft.

Machado spoke about the main difference between coming from a mid-major versus a big school

“Loyalty; I was getting recruited high my freshmen and sophomore year, but my junior year I wasn’t,” he said.

“My senior year I went to St. Benedict’s which was the number one team in the country so all the big schools started coming back, so there weren’t loyal to me, they didn’t want me like that.”

Thus far, Machado has worked out with numerous teams including the Knicks, Nets, Sixers, Wizards, Celtics, Warriors, Spurs, and Pistons.
