It’s Martial Law right now on social media as Anthony Martial is currently a top ten trending term on Twitter worldwide. Why is it so? Because late in the Manchester United-West Bromwich Albion fixture, West Brom’s Gareth McAuley hauled down the young Red Devils striker in the box late and official Mike Dean had no option but to send McAuley off.
Juan Mata converted the penalty kick to make the score 2-0 and seal the win.
Then the television cameras caught Martial’s look of contentment for what he had just accomplished, and the teenage scoring sensation’s smile lit up Twitter.

Earlier this season, obviously Anthony Martial’s first at Old Trafford, the reigning Premier League Player of the Month was described by United Captain Wayne Rooney as “incredible” and likely to provide “magic” at Old Trafford. Then of course, you had/have all the media pundits saying Martial is the next Thierry Henry. (Martial himself does the right thing and plays down the comparisons)
Van Gaal, at his match preview press conference yesterday, articulated what the best position for Anthony Martial might be:
“I’m always thinking what is in the team’s benefit and I have said left wing is his best position, but he can play in three positions in his eyes – left, striker and No 10. I think his best position may be striker.”
“He is very young but I think it is better he develops in the striker’s position.”
Footage of Anthony Martial schooling Seamus Coleman went world wide viral, as social media users were blown away by the Frenchman’s fancy footwork. (Take a look at this link)
