Wednesday brought good news and bad news for former Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany. We’ll start with the bad news first, he’s been ruled out of his own testimonial match after having suffered a hamstring injury.

Now to the good news, the Belgian, who left the club this summer to become player-manager at Anderlecht has been honored with a road naming and commissioning of a sculpture at his former club.

So while Kompany won’t be able to play alongside his former teammates in an exhibition against a Premier League All-Star XI tonight, at least he’s back in Manchester to see his new road sign and art installation.

A road at the City Football Academy has now been renamed in honor of the longtime former captain. Additionally, Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak revealed plans for the commissioning of a sculpture to be installed at the City of Manchester Stadium.

Vincent Kompany, reacting to the dedications said:

“It is an incredible honour to be recognised by this special Club in this way. The journey that we went on together throughout my 11-years in Manchester changed my life and I am delighted to have played my small part in altering the course of this Club’s history during that time.”

“To establish a permanent, physical connection with a place that will forever mean so much to me is truly humbling and I will always be grateful to Sheikh Mansour, Khaldoon Al Mubarak and all those associated with City for their unwavering support and kindness.”
