Tottenham Hotspur gave White Hart Lane, their iconic stadium of 118 years, a glorious send off with a 2-1 victory over Manchester United. The ground opened its doors in 1899, and hosted the 2,533rd and final match against a United side that had already essentially checked out of the Premier League this season.
While United wasn’t all mentally and psychologically there, the White Hart Lane crowd was “all in” and emotionally engaged. It was an emotional triumph for Spurs, and the Spurs supporter community.
Tottenham got goals from Victor Wanyama (6′) and Harry Kane (48′), and it was enough to edge out the only scoring from United (Wayne Rooney in the 71′). After it was over, a record tying 14th straight consecutive home victory, a stunning celebration erupted on the pitch.
The victory clinched second place for Tottenham and officially eliminated Manchester United from reaching the top four. The powerful moment for Spurs has now inspired #COYS #TheLaneTheFinale and #FarewellWhiteHartLane top trending terms on Twitter.
