After Tottenham Hotspur’s statement win on Sunday, 6-2 at Everton, positioned Spurs solidly in third place, naturally some Premier League title contention talk would ensue. Spurs are just two points behind Manchester City for second, and six off the pace of league leaders Liverpool.
They are five clear of fourth place Chelsea as we head into Christmas. Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino acknowledged that the two teams in front of his side are considered the front-runners, not Spurs. However, he knows that his side isn’t far off, and will have plenty of opportunities to reach the top.
“Liverpool and City are the two favorites to fight for the Premier League,” the Argentine told reporters at Goodison Park. “We are in a good position. But there are a lot of games to play.”
Scoring sensation and face of the franchise Harry Kane made similar remarks after the huge win today.
“Everybody’s been talking about Liverpool and Manchester City, and we’ve been getting on with it and doing well, like we normally do,” the England striker, who is set to receive an award from the Queen, said.
“It’s important we carry that on now. The games are coming thick and fast but they’re games we can definitely win. We’ve had a good month and hopefully we can take that into January now, and February, and we’ll see where we’re at come April time.”
Up next for Tottenham is a home match against Bournemouth on Boxing Day. They then welcome Wolves in on the weekend, before traveling to Cardiff City on New Year’s Day.
