Mo Salah Wants to Realize Premier League Title Dreams at Anfield

Liverpool star Mo Salah has doubled down on his Boxing Day proclamation that he came to Anfield to win Premier League titles. The last time (1989-90) that Liverpool won England’s top flight, Salah was still two years from being born. The Reds are currently in third place, 18 points behind table toppers Manchester City in the title race, with just 11 games to go.

“I came to here to win titles. I can tell the fans we work 100 percent to try and win something for the club,” the high flying winger said in an interview with the BBC. “It’s a long time since the club won the league. It’s my dream to win the Premier League — but I want to win it with this club.”

Mo Salah, an Egyptian international nicknamed “the Pharaoh,” has also promised a trophy this season at Anfield. He made the guarantee right before Christmas. The Reds are already eliminated from the FA Cup and League Cup, and the league title has obviously been long out of reach for a long while already. Their only shot at silverware is via the UEFA Champions League, where they have all but finished off FC Porto, and seem all but certain to reach the quarterfinals.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says there’s nothing for his club to be worried about in the Champions League competition.

“I watched all the games. I saw pure quality. I knew that Sevilla were still really strong so I wasn’t surprised. It was a completely normal game that United played there,” Klopp said.

“All the others – Shakhtar Donetsk was maybe a surprise for a few people but they have quality. They are still in their winter break and that makes it very special for them what they achieved against Roma.”

“I know all the teams but it is nice when you are involved and you need to watch it. We play United in two weeks so I needed to watch that and we could play Sevilla again if we go through. I was not worried before I watched all the games, I am not worried now. All I know is that they all have big quality.”

The Daily Mirror held a poll asking “will Liverpool win the Champions League?” and 78% of respondents said yes. Of the teams remaining in the knockout round, Liverpool have the fifth best odds, according to bookmakers. Salah and the Reds are up 2-0 just after halftime over West Ham United at home.
