We’re just minutes from kickoff of Manchester City at Liverpool, a Champions League quarterfinal clash that features the top two candidates for PFA Player of the Year in City’s Kevin De Bruyne and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah. You’d have to put Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane in that mix too, but his chances obviously took a blow when he got hurt last month.

De Bruyne said that Mo Salah gets his vote. “I vote for Salah, I wouldn’t know how to choose anybody else,” De Bruyne said in an interview with BT Sport.

“He’s up there with [Harry] Kane, me and David [Silva]. They are the four best players of the season, constantly, and I’m honest when I’m voting, I just vote for him if he deserves it.

“In the end, if other people don’t do it, I don’t mind!”

De Bruyne also named two Manchester United players, David de Gea and Antonio Valencia, to his first team ballot.

It’s near impossible to truly compare Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne in a head to head as they play two completely different positions. However, it’s just a fact of like that scoring sells tickets, moves the needle and grabs the headlines. Thus, you got to believe that in the end, it’s the high profile goal scoring sensation who will claim the honor.

Yesterday, De Bruyne, while giving Salah really high praise, also said that he deserves to win the award.

“In one way I believe I deserve it, because I have been very consistent in my form, De Bruyne said in regards to the possibility of his claiming PFA Player of the Year.

“I am very happy with myself. I am very pleased with how I have played and I didn’t expect to be this good this season to be honest,” he continued.

“There is almost no game where my standard has dropped, so I have been very constant. To maintain the level in the amount of games I have played, the amount of minutes, I am very pleased with that.”
