Today marked the 60th anniversary of the Munich air disaster, and with it a commemoration service was held at Old Trafford on Tuesday. Sir Bobby Charlton, who survived the plane crash that took 23 lives was in attendance, as was club legend of all club legends Sir Alex Ferguson, the current Manchester United first-team squad and manager Jose Mourinho.

This past weekend saw Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata pay a powerful and poignant tribute to the victims after United’s 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town at Old Trafford.
Also, on Friday, United manager Jose Mourinho held his weekly press conference, and the session opened with a reporter pointing out the Munich Air Disaster memorial pin that Mourinho was wearing.
Additionally, fans gathered by the memorial on the stadium’s exterior facade today. Crowds of people stood in silence as the snow fell outside Old Trafford. Of the 44 people on their way home from United’s European Cup quarterfinal win over Red Star Belgrade that night, only 21 survived.
