Manchester United is, to quote Jay-Z, “playing Monopoly with real cash.” Or you can quote Ludacris instead “big paper like pancakes stacking ’em up.”
Yes, with the richest sports wear deal in history, numerous other lucrative corporate partnerships, and all that newly added revenue in the most recent Premier League television deal, United are pretty much printing money over there at Old Trafford.
With ocean sized “revenue streams,” Manchester United have endless pockets to spend on players. According to research by the CIES Football Observatory, the current side boasts the most expensive squad in football history, with a cost of £628 million, €718 million, $807 million.
The mother of all wage bills is led by the most expensive player of all time- Paul Pogba £89.3 million, $115 million.
In analyzing their data and then forming conclusions from it, the CIES Football Observatory said:
“Generally speaking, the correlation between the squad cost and the final position in the domestic league table is very high. However, last season, Leicester City won the English Premier League title with the 17th costliest squad out of 20.”
