This week we learned that three players rejected the chance to join Manchester United. On the flip side, we also learned about one player, Mathieu Debuchy who wanted to move to Old Trafford, but wasn’t granted the opportunity to do so.
Debuchy expressed his annoyance with Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger for not giving him the playing time that he said was promised to him. Debuchy also expressed his disappointment that the Gunners wouldn’t let his loan move to a league rival go through.
“Yes, I’m a little bit annoyed by him,” Debuchy said of Wenger.
“It’s his choice [not to give him playing time]. I came back well this summer, I had a good preseason.”
“I was able to talk to him to know my future at Arsenal. He said that I would have game time and that we would discuss it in December. Unfortunately, I didn’t have this game time.”
It was an extremely uneventful (read: boring) January transfer window deadline day. There were a few minor moves made however, including the Gunners sending Mathieu Debuchy out on loan to Ligue 1 side Bordeaux.
You know he’ll be able to get excellent wine out there quite easily! Debuchy said that had he been given a chance to join the Red Devils it would have been magnificent.
“Yes, at the end of the transfer window they came in,” Debuchy said.
“They contacted my agents. I was disappointed, obviously. If I had the chance to go to Manchester United it would have been magnificent.”
“Unfortunately it wasn’t the case. I discussed it with the coach too, who said that obviously he couldn’t help out a rival.”

The French international returned home as a means to get first team football and bolster his prospects for Euro 2016.
Arsenal posted the following statement regarding Debuchy on their official website on deadline day:
“Debuchy returns to his homeland for the opportunity of regular football ahead of Euro 2016 this summer. Everyone at Arsenal wishes Mathieu well for his time with the Girondins.”
