Manchester United announced their 25 man Premier League squad for the 2022-23 season, as well as their official Under 21s. Lots of observers were astonished to see Mason Greenwood included in the documentation, and many were offended enough to post their disgust with this development on social media.
Some saw his inclusion as an indication that the club will soon activate the indefinitely suspended forward. They are wrong, and there is absolutely no reason to believe that Mason Greenwood will be featuring for the club any time soon. Greenwood’s status with the club hasn’t changed, he’s still technically an employee of Manchester United.

Just as he has been since the allegations of rape, assault and threats to kill first surfaced this past January. They cannot terminate player contract without cause, and they would have to wait until, of if, he is convicted. His official page on the United website remains up, much like it has been the entire time. Ditto for his social media accounts.
As he is Under 21, he’s on the U21 list, not the senior team. He is also an English international, so doesn’t need to be officially registered. So in essence he’s not actually, really, truly included on the squad list. More importantly, nothing has changed regarding his criminal status- Mason Greenwood remains out on bail, awaiting his next court date.
Those are the facts, plain and true. Nothing more to read into any of them.
