Hirving “Chucky” Lozano is essentially the next big thing among Mexican attacking players. Perhaps one day he’ll surpass the achievements of Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez. Lozano had a stellar World Cup and that reportedly has him on the radar of several big clubs, including Barcelona and Arsenal, according to Transfer Market Web.
The 22-year-old who plies his trade with PSV Eindhoven was also linked to Manchester United a couple summers ago.
However, some of those reports were kind of questionable to say the least, as Lozano said then that he never knew of any interest from United. Here in 2018, it’s being reported that United are pursuing Lozano again this summer.
This transfer narrative seems to be moving very fast too. Via the People’s Person:
“Italian outlet TUTTOmercatoWEB claim that Man United are lining up a swoop for his services ahead of the 2018-19 season. United are said to be planning a €40m offer for Lozano and negotiations with PSV Eindhoven are set to begin ‘in the coming days’,”
Lozano is a winger, but he has the ability to play any of the attacking positions. The left side is his strongest position. He first made a name for himself with Pachuca, and top European clubs have been well aware of him ever since. Last year with PSV he scored 19 times and contributed 11 assists.
While Chucky seems to be a player who is certainly on the upswing in their career, we all know what happened the last time United bought a PSV Eindhoven winger. Remember Memphis Depay?
Depay, who was the Dutch Eredivisie’s leading scorer at the time of his transfer to Old Trafford, was a colossal bust. While this may not actually inhibit this deal from getting done, it’s worth mentioning again that United boss Jose Mourinho said repeatedly he won’t acquire an attacking player this summer, and that’s because of the Alexis Sanchez addition in January.
