Ryan Giggs was a part of Manchester United football club, in one way shape or form for 29 years. He finally parted ways with Old Trafford in less than ideal fashion, as the regime change to Jose Mourinho forced him out. Giggs had served as an assistant under Louis van Gaal and as interim manager after David Moyes had been sacked.
Now he’s boss of the Wales National Team, after having struggled to find his next managerial gig. Along the way he’s done a lot of punditry, and he did a bit more here as he was asked by Sky Sports to name his league title contenders for this season. His answer is logical and reasonable; most people paying attention will agree with him.
However, it is notable that he left his former club off the list.
“It looks like a case of Manchester City v Liverpool for the title, although you can’t dismiss Chelsea because they’re playing well,” the former winger said.
“Remember just two years ago they were the champions and they’ve got players in that dressing room who know what it takes – Liverpool haven’t got that, but you’ve got to start somewhere and Liverpool have been impressive.
“As for Man City, I watched them against Lyon and you think something might be wrong and then they go and put on a show against Cardiff,” Ryan Giggs continued.
“So I’d say it was between those two but you can’t discount Chelsea. I’d still just give Manchester City the edge purely because Pep Guardiola usually wins second season after winning the league and they’ve got players who’ve been there and done it.”
Liverpool are currently top of the table, and they entered this season as the most likely candidates to dethrone the strong favorites- defending league champions Manchester City. Man City bring pretty much the same team back from a side that smashed numerous league records last season.
Chelsea have been much better than expected under their new manager, and have only dropped two points in league action this season. They are the only team from the English top flight not to have lost a game across any competition this season.
