The rebuild of Manchester United could definitely take some time, so get ready and dig your heels in for that. The upshot is that we’ll have a summer transfer window filled with many comings and goings.
And with Manchester United linked to approximately 97,324 players already, the time is right for some Red Devils transfer talk. For part two of today’s United transfer talk, go here.
Remember the summer of 2017, the great striker shuffle in the summer transfer window? It saw Manchester United swoop in and sign Everton’s Romelu Lukaku, who was heavily linked to Antonio Conte’s Chelsea side at the time.
Real Madrid man Alvaro Morata was strongly linked to United, but went to Chelsea instead; where he subsequently flopped and then moved back to Spain this past January. As for Lukaku, he’s been a major disappointment too, and his days at United look numbered.
The big Belgian has openly discussed a move to Italy in the press this season.
So for all that hullabaloo two summers ago about these two players, neither actually panned out. Hey, it all seemed like really good ideas at the time. Now Lukaku could finally get his chance to play for Conte, next season, as he’s been linked with a move to Inter Milan, where the former Chelsea boss is set to take charge. Here’s more from The Times.
As part of the deal, long time United target Ivan Perisic could be going the other way. Here’s more on that.
Next we move on to another United player who plied his trade with Chelsea before coming to Old Trafford. Juan Mata is out of contract, and the negotiations to re-sign him are going nowhere.
According to multiple outlets, he could be on the move on Newcastle United, where he would be reunited with Rafa Benitez. The Express has more over at this link. Bye for now, but we’ll be back real soon with another edition of Man United transfer talk.
