Man United News and Transfer Talk: Fernandes, Neville, Dalot, Longstaff

Still waiting for all that hype that entered this summer transfer window at Manchester United to get realized, but hey at least two players have actually been signed.

Hopefully, there will be more signings to talk about between now and when the season starts. Training camp opens up tomorrow, July 1, so with that mind here are some of the top trending news items and transfer narratives in the Manchester United online community on this Sunday fun day.

Who could be the third signing after Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka? Well, most likely it will be Bruno Fernandes or Sean Longstaff.

We’ll start with the former, a 24-year-old Sporting CP midfielder. According to various reports, Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur have all dropped out of the race to sign Fernandes, and that’s obviously great news for United, as the midfielder is supposedly valued in the £60 million range.

Sporting Lisbon manager Marcel Keizer he realizes that his stellar man in the middle could bolt this transfer window.

“I want Bruno Fernandes to stay, but everyone knows the current situation,” Keizer said. “It’s going to be difficult to keep him going, he’s on vacation, we’ll see what happens.”

Turning to the latter, the departure of manager Rafa Benitez has now increased the likelihood that the 21-year-old leaves his hometown club and joins Benitez in heading out the exit door.

According to 90 Min, negotiations are about to get started, and United will open with a £15 million bid.

With all this talk of new midfielder targets, it could be a signal that Paul Pogba will be on his way out? Maybe.

Next we turn to a summer transfer window acquisition from last year, Diogo Dalot. There have been reports that he’s expendable now that Wan-Bissaka is in the fold and that manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could be looking to put him on the transfer block.

Well, the Portugese won’t go down without a fight as he posted the following on social media since the transaction was made:

Finally, Tuesday brings a Women’s World Cup semifinal between England and the heavily favored Team USA juggernaut. United club legend and Three Lionesses head coach Phil Neville was irritated to learn the Americans have been scoping out the England hotel.

There seems to be some friction between Neville and USWNT Coach Jill Ellis over this. NBC Sports has more.
