Liverpool FC head into their weekend fixture at home against West Ham United with the potential to leapfrog into second place in the Premier League table. The Reds are two points and -2 in goal differential behind 2nd place Manchester United, and a point ahead of fourth place Chelsea. The Blues and Red Devils meet Sunday, so depending on how that result turns out, we could see a shake-up in the top four.
However, the Hammers won’t be a pushover, as they come in with just one loss in their last eight Premier League matches. They are a mid-table side, but at the same time just four points from safety.
While they certainly have had an awful season, it goes without saying what sometimes happens to Liverpool against the bottom clubs. You already know the narrative about what can happen when Liverpool takes on a team like this.
“We had our targets, but they changed,” says Irons striker Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez.
“At the beginning of the season, we were aiming to qualify for European competition, but now we are fighting against relegation, but that is sport, that is football and part of life, so we need to accept it and try to be better and get out and see what’s going to happen next year.”
If we have all these players recovered, probably next year we are going to be fighting for a European position, you never know.”
