Liverpool Humiliated by Red Star Belgrade, Some of the Best Twitter Reactions

Liverpool’s traveling to Red Star Belgrade for the UEFA Champions League group stage fixture tonight should have been a slam dunk for the visitors. After all, they were heavily favored over a side that they had just handled easily at home, only a couple weeks ago. Instead Red Star got a brace from Milan Pakvok, and now Liverpool find themselves in real trouble of advancing beyond group stage play.

Maybe Liverpool would have been better had they been place into a group that included the Chicago Red Stars of the NWSL, over Red Star Belgrade. I kid, I kid. Anyway, the Merseyside club will now have to take care of business versus Inter Milan and PSG now if they are to move on to the next round.

Social media was of course social media, weighing in with some funny jokes and also some hot facts here and there. Let’s take a look at some of the better offerings.

This is the FIRST time a Serbian side has EVER won a game in the Champions League at the 16th attempt (W1, D4, L11)

That statue is really terrible, and it truly does a great disservice to Mo Salah as it doesn’t resemble him at all.

Maybe not fair, but still funny-

Liverpool have lost three consecutive Champions League away games (excl. neutral grounds) for the first time in their history:

4-2 vs. Roma
1-0 vs. Napoli
2-0 vs. Red Star

They weren't too fussed about Roma though. ? pic.twitter.com/mV7QIssBVk

As you can see from the small sample size above- Twitter brings the irreverent comedy, along with some numbers, facts and stats. It’s a very tough loss for Liverpool. For their sake, and the sake of their fans, hopefully they come correct next time.
