Right now, the transfer talk surrounding Chelsea mostly concerns departures, not arrivals but Willian is one key player who is staying put. The long time Manchester United target was also strongly pursued by Barcelona this summer. However, the Brazilian winger has officially committed his future to Stamford Bridge and the new boss Maurizio Sarri.
There will not be a long awaited reunion with former manager Jose Mourinho, nor a move to Catalonia.
“I’m a Chelsea player. I always made it clear that what I wanted was to stay in the club,” Willian said after the Community Shield loss to Manchester City yesterday.
“The only club I knew that really made an official offer for me was Barcelona. But I have my head here and I intend to continue in the club unless the club wants to sell me. But my head is here in the club,” the 29-year-old Brazilian added.
This will be his sixth year with the west London side. There you go Blues supporters- this long protracted transfer saga is over. Now the club can focus on trying to keeping the Belgian duo of Thibaut Courtois and Eden Hazard from going to Real Madrid.
For United, Willian becomes the latest high profile winger that the club has recently missed out on in the transfer market, joining the likes of Gareth Bale and Ivan Perisic.
