Today saw former Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois introduced as a member of his new team, Real Madrid. The unveiling featured a lot of photo opportunities and people “saying all the right things” in interviews, but there was some actual news at this event too.

Courtois really hopes that his former Chelsea teammate, who was also alongside him with Belgium at the World Cup, joins him in making the switch to the La Liga juggernaut.

“He’s a wonderful player. I’d love to play alongside him again and we’ll have to see what happens in the future,” Courtois said at his product rollout.

“If he ends up here one day, that would be brilliant.”

The summer transfer window is now closed in England (go here for the analysis, recap, breakdown and grade of Chelsea’s transfer window), so the Blues can’t add anyone, but they can still see players bolt for teams abroad.

That said, Hazard is almost certainly staying. The chances of him leaving are so tiny it’s not even worth really discussing. However, next summer he’ll be on his way to the final year of his current Chelsea deal, and then perhaps a switch could happen.

Courtois also said his official goodbyes to Chelsea.

“All I’d like to do is to thank the fans for the last four years and for how they’ve supported me at Chelsea,” he said.

“I’ve got a new opportunity in my career now and I have to make the most of it. I’ve got two kids here and that had a significant role to play in my decision.”
