Adriana Leon, a native Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, is a big reason the host nation was able to advance to the knockout round of the Women’s World Cup. The Winger/Attacking Midfielder was an essential part of the Canucks game plan; which helped them advance past the group stages.
It’s a big deal Canada got this far, as they placed dead last in the most recent World Cup. The 22-year-old, 5’3″ midfielder is one of the major players to keep an eye as we enter single elimination portion of the tournament.
Adriana Leon received a soccer scholarship to Notre Dame, where she played for two years before transferring to Florida. Her freshman year in South Bend, she came off the bench to score the only goal in the Irish’s national title game triumph in 2010.
Her sophomore year, Leon led the Fighting Irish in scoring.
Adriana Leon plays her club ball for the Chicago Red Stars of the National Women’s Soccer League.
