Chicago Cubs find next savior in 1st round pick Albert Almora

The Chicago Cubs will probably lose 105+ games this season, so tonight was pretty much their Super Bowl. It’s the first MLB draft of the Theo Epstein- Jed Hoyer regime, so it’s a big night for Cubs fans and the long term view. With over a century on ineptitude, Cub fans are always obsessed with the next savior, the next big thing to come along and turn it around.

Anthony Rizzo has that title now, but in the past the heavy crown has been worn by: Shawon Dunston, Corey Patterson, Felix Pie, Mark Prior, Kerry Wood, Ty Griffin, Mike Harkey, Lance Dickson, Gary Scott and many more “can’t miss” prospects who ultimately missed.

The next home-grown super-prospect is……5 tool player Albert Almora.

Almora was taken tonight with the sixth overall pick in the 2012 MLB entry draft out of Mater Academy in Hialeah Gardens, Florida. The 6’1″ 170 outfielder hit .606 with 6 HR in 19 games this past season. Almora who has played for Team USA a record 6 times, has been compared to Adam Jones.
