Chelsea’s Hopes of Keeping Eden Hazard Boosted by Zinedine Zidane Exit

Eden Hazard has consistently been linked with a move to Real Madrid the past few years, and each summer we see a new added wrinkle on this transfer narrative. Think of it like a smart phone or smart phone app- there’s always a new feature. With Zinedine Zidane unexpectedly up and leaving Real Madrid last Thursday, you knew there would be ripple effects all across the football world.

That includes Stamford Bridge, where the Frenchman’s exit is reportedly a big boost to the Blues’ hopes of keeping Hazard.

The London Evening Standard claim that:

“Zidane was pushing the Real Madrid hierarchy to make a bid for the 27-year-old this summer.

Given that Hazard has spoken regularly in his career about how Zidane was his idol growing up and he dreamed of playing under him one day, the Champions League winners posed a real threat.”

Hazard and Zidane have a professional fondness for one another, as we’ve seen both men publicly praise the other over the past couple years.

Another London publication, The Sun, is claiming that disagreement over transfer policy is what led to the Zidane’s exit, and their narrative cites both Hazard, and the failed attempts to land Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea. I guess we’ll know the true, behind-the-scenes reason some day, perhaps long after Zidane lands at his next destination.

As for Hazard, the 27-year-old Belgian still has two seasons left on his current deal with the west London club.
