Today in “piling on Arsenal FC as they struggle” news, Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy says he saw the team’s “downfall” coming. Vardy snubbed the opportunity to join the north London side last summer, and he made comments today explaining why. The 30-year-old Englishman certainly has no regrets about the decision, and he claims to have known that the club’s current rough spell was going to happen, long before it did.
Asked about missing out on a medal from the 2017 FA Cup victory, Jamie Vardy said:
“It wasn’t the Premier League was it? So we’re all right with that I think. I’ll never regret anything I’ve chosen to do.”
He then added with a smile, according to the London Evening Standard: “I’m a bit of a psychic, I could see the little downfall they are on now. They had qualified for the Champions League for the last 20 years until last year. That was something to think about.”
“Leicester were also in the Champions League and on a different night at home against Atletico (Madrid) we could have gone even further, but there were all sorts (of reasons). Football was the main thing but moving the family when I’d just bought a house would have been a laugh – not.”
Arsenal took just three points, sporting a -4 goal differential from their first three league games. Many believed their appeared especially listless in a 4-0 trouncing at the hands of Liverpool, their final game before the international break, which gave everybody more time to talk about it.
It is worth noting however that the one team the Gunners beat this very young season is Leicester, by the score of 4-3. Jamie Vardy did do his part for the Foxes in that setback though as he netted twice.
