Update: Philippe Coutinho does not have a release clause in his current Liverpool contract, and Barcelona have made no contact with Liverpool over a potential transfer sources told ESPN FC.
As it’s international break, there isn’t a ton of news to discuss, but there is one Liverpool transfer rumor story circulating in the Twitterverse, blogosphere and media world.
It’s not one that’s actually going to happen, but it’s worth touching upon anyway. Jurgen Klopp may be the star of currently table topping Liverpool, but they’re best player is Philippe Coutinho no doubt.
His form is consistently strong and it’s reportedly attracting the attention of Spanish giants Barcelona.
Quoting Goal:
Barcelona has placed in-form Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho atop its transfer wishlist, Spanish publication Sport reports.
The attacking midfielder’s stellar form in the Premier League this season has put a number of clubs on alert, including the Blaugrana’s Clasico counterpart Real Madrid.
Coutinho has a long standing friendship with Barca star Neymar, however, which was highlighted as the pair combined to lead Brazil to a 3-0 win over fierce rival Argentina on Thursday.
Obviously, a big move like this if it did happen, wouldn’t happen until the summer. Players of elite quality like Philippe Coutinho only move, or consider moving, during the summer transfer window.
