The Sports Bank turns eight years old today. Time to look back on our eight “greatest hits.” These aren’t the most viewed articles of all time. For that list, with links to all those stories, go here. That list is an exact science of boolean values, while this one is more subjective.

Of all the stories that I broke first during the course of my career, these eight had the most impact.

1. Jay Cutler Doooooooon’t Caaaaaareeeee

Up until six months or so ago, I used to have somebody use the catch-phrase on me at least 2-3 times month every month. I admit, the bit is very long played out and way overdone now. It was a lot of fun, but after several years, hearing it today is sooooooo staaaaaaaaale.

Still, when you story gets picked up by NFL.com, gets said on NFL Network and made into t-shirts, you can’t ask for much better than that!

2. Blackhawks Fired Susannah Collins, not CSN Chicago

This one got linked on just about every news home page and web portal that weekend. And like 99% of news stories, no one really cared after 48 hours. However, it did give me my own category on Deadspin! So that’s something.

3. Carrie Underwood will be the new Sunday Night Football Intro Singer

The only time in my life I ever had anything in common with Carrie Underwood message boards and rural red state country music radio station facebook fan pages. Like the end of Apocalypse Now, “the horror, the horror.”

4. Greg Gumbel hasn’t said “Redskins” on air for several years

Olbermann played the podcast on air and the #2 paper of record, the Washington Post, linked it. Hence I became a 4-hit wonder with this one.

5. Notre Dame shifting apparel partners to Under Armour/undergoing massive stadium renovations

That was hilarious when professional heel and America’s anti-sweetheart Darren Rovell claimed he had the UA story first. He was only a month change behind us.
