When it comes to the Philadelphia Eagles, I really have a soft spot for Chip Kelly. Because of the quasi-endorsement he gave of The Sports Bank at the Rose Bowl (story here). Also, he’s a genius. An offensive genius! I mean Nick Foles of all people broke the TD pass record? Not to mention all the Philadelphia Eagles team records that the offense broke last season.
You got to think that the NFC East still goes through them. And of course, the NFC East is a very strange place, as we saw in December last year, you can keep on losing, and yet you can still advance forward.
Obviously, the wide receivers are a little thin now with the loss of Jason Avant and DeSean Jackson. If Jeremy Maclin goes down, it could be big trouble. But this was the #1 rushing team in the NFL last season, and now they’re even better on the ground with the addition of Darren Sproles. Of course, Chip Kelly does not care about depth charts. He DOOOOOOOOESN’T CAAAAAAAAAAAAREEEEEE.
“Seriously, the depth chart, I don’t care,” Kelly said. “I think [Eagles PR Director] Derek [Boyko] did it. I mean, it’s absolutely nothing. I know we’re going to get questions on it, and I’ll be honest with you, I do not care. . . . I said a long time ago, it’s written in sand, it’s written in water, it can be written in anything. That depth chart means absolutely nothing. The only reason we make one is because they tell us to make one. Call it whatever you want to call it.”
For those that do care, here’s the Eagles’ depth chart as it stands now.
But he’s Chip Kelly so he can get way with that. Our finest minds are allowed to be zany and quirky. Especially when he uses the tight ends the way that he does., The Philadelphia Eagles should have two of the top 15 TEs in the league this year.
Overall, I think the Eagles offense will make them the favorite in the division. They’re probably a top ten team in the league, talent wise, and should go farther in the playoff this year.
Philadelphia Eagles prediction: 10-6.
