Maybe Detroit Lions chairman Bill Ford Jr. was listening to some Bone Thugz n Harmony before the Lions home blowout of the Chicago Bears this past Sunday.
‘We’re not against rap. We’re not against rappers. What we are against, are those thugs.” CC “Thuggish Ruggish Bone.
Here’s what the Detroit Lions Vice-Chairman said last night at a team dinner:
“It was really alive, and it was alive when we played those same bunch of thugs on Monday Night a couple [years ago],” Ford said, via Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. “When this place gets going it’s electric and we do have wonderful fans. Our fans are amazing and we would love to pay them back and bring home a winner, and I love the way this team is playing right now.”
Now that’s not nice. And not fair.
Especially coming from a team that employs Ndamukong Suh and Mikel Leshore, among other Detroit Lions players with “character concerns.” And it’s not just the Detroit Lions that have some thuggery going on, it’s pretty much every NFL team. So to single out the Bears is absolutely ridiculous. You can single out the New England Patriots, maybe, for having a roster stocked with criminals, but not the Bears. At least not when compared to other NFL squads.
I know that Bill Ford Jr. was joking. However, it’s always funny to see one of the most powerful civic leaders from a community that declared bankruptcy this past summer refer to another team as a “bunch of thugs.”
Here’s another joke for the Detroit Lions VP- Ford’s stock price!
