Welcome to The Sports Bank’s third annual college basketball season preview series.  Two years we looked at 99 teams in 99 days.  Last year, we were slightly more aggressive and expanded to 111 teams in 111 days and will do so again as we look ahead to the 2012-2013 season. We will rank the 75 power conference teams and top 36 mid-majors in reverse power ranking order. … [Read more...] about #105 Texas Tech Red Raiders: College Basketball 111 in 111

#42 Texas Tech Red Raiders: College Football 77 in 77

July 21, 2012 By paulmbanks

Yo ho yo ho! a pirate's life for me! For the Texas Tech Red Raiders a pirate's life consists of lots of passing, not a lot of running, and not a lot of defending. Last year was a bit more extreme as they did all those things, only more so. Usually the defense is more serviceable and the running game has a little more punch than they did in 2011. We expect more of the same in … [Read more...] about #42 Texas Tech Red Raiders: College Football 77 in 77

Rapid Reaction: Oklahoma Has Crazy Second Half, Blows Out KSU

October 29, 2011 By paulmbanks

In a game that served as the first real test that the #8 Kansas State Wildcats have faced this year, they were found to be woefully lacking, as Landry Jones passed for 505 yards and the Oklahoma Sooners scored 44 unanswered points en route to a blistering 58-17 thrashing of KSU in Manhattan. Ryan Broyles had 14 catches for 171 yards and a score, and Jaz Reynolds caught two TD's … [Read more...] about Rapid Reaction: Oklahoma Has Crazy Second Half, Blows Out KSU

Texas Tech QB Goes 40-44 Passing; Breaks NCAA Record

September 18, 2011 By paulmbanks

Lookout Big 12, those of you who still remain for Seth Doege and the Texas Tech offense. The Red Raiders have been a well-oiled pass-happy machine for years, but yesterday's 59-13 rout at New Mexico was a special show. Doege broke the NCAA completion percentage record for quarterbacks who complete at least 40 passes. He connected on 40 of 44 attempts (90.9 percent) to … [Read more...] about Texas Tech QB Goes 40-44 Passing; Breaks NCAA Record

Northwestern vs. Texas Tech: Brutally Honest Ticket City Bowl Preview

December 31, 2010 By paulmbanks

The college football game formerly known as the Dallas Football Classic is a pretty even-Stephen (like Colbert, a Northwestern alum) match on paper. Same exact conference and overall records for both teams. Both programs don’t care much to run the ball, and they each have only one good win among their seven. Which is funny because the two teams they beat in those games … [Read more...] about Northwestern vs. Texas Tech: Brutally Honest Ticket City Bowl Preview

Alamo Bowl Preview

mike-leach-washington-state-cougars

By Jeff Ghiringhelli The Alamo Bowl was supposed to be a mid-level bowl game caught in the middle of the Bowl Championship Series. It has instead turned into a game filled with story lines and drama, and surely more eyes than anticipated will be on San Antonio tomorrow night. … [Read more...] about Alamo Bowl Preview

Texas Tech Coach Mike Leach Puts Player in Closet

December 28, 2009 By paulmbanks

By Alex Simon If you thought Texas Tech was playing with fire when hiring Bobby Knight, Tech was messing with a forest fire by not firing head football coach Mike Leach when they had the chance this offseason.  And if the accusations against Leach are true, then hall of fame hardliner Bobby Knight looks like a true mench. Red Raider redshirt sophomore receiver Adam James, … [Read more...] about Texas Tech Coach Mike Leach Puts Player in Closet
