Hope Solo Calls Out Rio Olympics Security Problems

As you already know, United States Women’s National Team Goalkeeper Hope Solo does not hold back. When she speaks her mind, it makes headlines. Just as it should because an overwhelming majority of athletes are “corporate” 99% of the time, and don’t say anything that ever strays from the party/company line.

Solo is the opposite. She often lets loose, and because of that she isn’t often available for match related (and both the club and country level) media opportunities. When she does talk to the press, it’s a special treat, and today was definitely one of those special occasions.

VIDEO: Tottenham Hotspur training with Lakers PG Steve Nash

steve nash

Former NBA MVP and soon to be retiring superstar Steve Nash joined Tottenham Hotspur during their training in Toronto. It was the day before Spurs defeated Toronto FC 3-2 in an international friendly.  Nash grew up in the west coast of Canada wanting to play professional soccer as a child. That sport, not basketball, was actually the first love of the current Los Angeles Lakers point guard.

His father and grandfather were both from Tottenham, so being a true Spurs supporter runs deep in his bloodlines.

Gretchen Bleiler is one of the names you need to know when the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics gets going early next month. Gretchen Bleiler received a lot of publicity in October of 2011 when she appeared in ESPN the magazine’s “Body Issue.” Although the main star of that show was soccer star Hope Solo, pretty much naked almost on the cover.

32-year-old Gretchen Bleiler is an halfpipe snowboarder from Toledo who currently resides in Aspen.

Hope Solo doesn’t seem to ever be lacking in confidence, and when her former women’s soccer league folded, she considered another option. And that option shows that she really believes in herself.

“I thought about it (playing in a men’s league) when our league folded,” Solo told Goal.com. “I thought about playing for a lower-division men’s club team in St. Louis.”

Hope Solo Deemed “Too Muscular” for Dancing with the Stars

hope_solo_dwts

You may wonder why U.S. women’s soccer goalkeeper Hope Solo was so whiny and complainy after being cut during the semi-final round of “Dancing with the Stars.” Her Q Rating suffered greatly as she came off as a sore loser. She told Anderson Cooper some of the reasons why.

“I was told I had too much muscle and I was too intense and wasn’t very dainty,” Solo told Cooper. “Well, hello–you cast a female professional athlete. Help me get better as a dancer.”

She makes some valid points. You can see her body’s muscle mass in the Body Issue. Or in this video game ad.
