April 26, 2012 By paulmbanks

Here's the statement by the eleven college football conference commissioners and the Notre Dame Athletics Director. I trimmed it way down to eliminate all the cliches, corporatespeak, tautologies and double talk. … [Read more...] about College Football Playoffs: 8, 16 team plans nixed, 4 team plan likely

BCS statement on today’s meetings says nothing; but don’t be discouraged

February 22, 2012 By paulmbanks

All 11 college football conference commissioners met in Dallas for two days, with the session concluding today. Nothing concrete emerged from it, but they all seem to get it that a BCS replacement is needed. Things are finally moving in that direction, too, with recent reports indicating it'll likely begin with a "plus-one" system. Via SB Nation: … [Read more...] about BCS statement on today’s meetings says nothing; but don’t be discouraged

NCAA President Supports 4 Team Football Playoff Idea

January 13, 2012 By paulmbanks

Well, here's a step in the right direction. A small step, but maybe we'll have a college football playoff, with a Final Four like we do with college basketball. A December Delirium to complement the March Madness? NCAA President Mark Emmert says he would support a four-team playoff in college football - as long as the field doesn't grow. Well that last point isn't very … [Read more...] about NCAA President Supports 4 Team Football Playoff Idea

Going Inside Big Ten Network Headquarters, Conference Expansion Rumors

September 23, 2011 By paulmbanks

Last night I was lucky enough to be at a small private reception that included Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany. Yes, I was at the same party as the most powerful man in the prestigious college basketball and college football league. Delaney's a University of North Carolina alum, and this was a Chicago Carolina Club gathering at Japonais, a downtown restaurant located a few … [Read more...] about Going Inside Big Ten Network Headquarters, Conference Expansion Rumors

Yes, we know conference realignment/expansion looks ugly, greedy and makes ZERO geographic sense, but remember the entire point of four 16-team super-conferences is...College Football playoffs! With four 16-team leagues, you get 64 teams, plus conferences big enough to eventually implode the BcS. so we'll finally have PLAYOFFS instead of BcS nonsense This is overdue and well … [Read more...] about Past College Football Weekend: Wacky Videos and Billboards

Future Big 10 Expansion Candidates: Rutgers, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Notre Dame

August 19, 2011 By paulmbanks

The Big Ten Council of Presidents/Chancellors (COP/C) met recently to discuss conference expansion.A statement was issued by the Big Ten office today. It was a rather dry statement; and it didn't say a whole lot, so let's quickly get through it and move on to the fun stuff. In response to a number of recent media inquiries received by several Big Ten Presidents and … [Read more...] about Future Big 10 Expansion Candidates: Rutgers, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Notre Dame

Future Big 10 Expansion? Playoff System? Legendary Purdue QB Mark Herrmann’s Thoughts

August 4, 2011 By paulmbanks

Former Purdue Boilermakers and Indianapolis Colts quarterback Mark Herrmann was the first to throw for both 8,000 and 9,000 career passing yards. That record has since been broken numerous times, but he's a perfect example of how the game of college football has evolved. And the perfect person to talk with on where the game is evolving next. I had such a discussion with … [Read more...] about Future Big 10 Expansion? Playoff System? Legendary Purdue QB Mark Herrmann’s Thoughts

Curt Warner shares my vision: College Football Playoffs

July 27, 2010 By paulmbanks

One of the major reasons the Big Ten added Nebraska as a 12th team is to fulfill the NCAA rule requiring at least 12 in order to have a conference championship game. Because having a Big Ten championship game brings in a lot of dough. And A.D.s and conference commissioners are like Biggie and Jay-Z, they "love the dough, more than you know. Gotta let it show, I love the … [Read more...] about Curt Warner shares my vision: College Football Playoffs

Small schools must retain soul when joining BCS Conferences

June 21, 2010 By paulmbanks

college-football-playoff

It's easy to understand why the small schools are in favor of a college football playoff system; the BCS prohibits them from EVER playing in the championship. The big schools in the BCS conferences? (Big 12, SEC, ACC, Pac 10, Big East and Big Ten) Well, they get shafted by the computers too, but they're still much more likely to be BCS proponent than the mid majors.  Which … [Read more...] about Small schools must retain soul when joining BCS Conferences
