You remember that “zealous” Manchester United fan who threw a smoke grenade during the final match of the Sir Alex Ferguson era? That “devoted” fan, named Karl Henson, from Eccles, was today given an eight-week jail term and suspended for 12 months.
Henson was found guilty of possessing a smoke grenade at a sporting event. The incident occurred during the 5-5 draw at West Bromwich Albion in May.
Henson defended himself at the trial, at that was a very poor decision by the young Manchester United fan as he was found guilty. The court ordered Henson to pay £300 and an £80 victim surcharge. Henson claimed that he kept the grendade out of harm’s way and he threw the grenade on the pitch to….I don’t know his excuse and alibi sounded like gobbedly-gook to me. And the courts didn’t even buy it anyway. Classic case of outrageous and dangerous football hooliganism.
Let’s please hope that an example is made of Karl Henson, and other Manchester United fans do not emulate him.
